Tribal Nations
There are 38 federally recognized Tribal Nations headquartered in Oklahoma. Each is a separate sovereign with its own government, laws, courts and programs. There is no such thing as a general “Oklahoma Tribal law.”
What this site does and does not do
Oklahoma Homestead Law does not reproduce or interpret Tribal law on behalf of any Tribal Nation. These pages connect property owners, Tribal citizens and other Oklahomans directly to official Tribal government offices, laws, programs and records. Tribal land status and jurisdiction can vary by parcel and circumstance.
Tribal Geography in Oklahoma
This overview map helps show the broad geographic context of Tribal jurisdictions and Tribal areas in Oklahoma. It is included to help readers understand where Tribal Nations are located across the state and how Tribal geography can overlap with counties, communities and other land records. It is provided for orientation only.
A map alone cannot determine whether a specific parcel is fee simple land, Tribal trust land, individual trust land, restricted Indian land, a restricted allotment, Tribal fee land or another status. It also cannot answer every jurisdiction question. Land status and jurisdiction can vary by parcel, ownership history, federal law, Tribal law and the facts of a particular situation.

Important note
This map is an overview tool. It should not be used by itself to determine ownership, title status, trust status, reservation status, tax status or parcel-specific jurisdiction. A parcel located within a Tribal boundary area may still require separate review of land records, title documents, Tribal authority, federal records, county records and other official sources.
This map is dated 2010. Understanding of reservation boundaries and criminal jurisdiction in Oklahoma changed substantially after the U.S. Supreme Court decided McGirt v. Oklahoma in 2020, and again after Oklahoma v. Castro-Huerta in 2022, along with related Oklahoma appellate decisions. A map produced in 2010 does not reflect those developments. Treat it as historical geographic orientation, not as a current statement of jurisdiction.
If you need to confirm a legal boundary issue, land status question, court jurisdiction question or ownership-related matter, contact the appropriate Tribal government, Bureau of Indian Affairs office, county office, title professional or qualified attorney, depending on the issue involved.
Oklahoma Homestead Law does not attempt to summarize or interpret each Tribal Nation’s laws on its behalf. Instead, the resources below connect readers directly to official Tribal governments and verified public sources.
