Tonkawa Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma

The Tonkawa Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma is a federally recognized Tribal Nation headquartered in Oklahoma, and a separate sovereign government.

VA Native American Direct Loan

VA does not currently list this Nation on its NADL MOU page. Because MOUs can change, verify current participation directly with VA.

The Native American Direct Loan finances a residence on applicable federal trust or restricted land. It is not a general farm-acreage loan. For land outside federal trust status, the ordinary VA-guaranteed home loan may apply instead.

Land status is a parcel question

A parcel within a reservation boundary may be fee simple, Tribal trust, individual trust, restricted Indian land, a restricted allotment, Tribal fee, or an allotted interest with fractionated ownership. Determining which requires looking at that specific parcel, a boundary map cannot tell you.

This matters for probate, for mortgages, for leasing and for taxation, and the answer routinely differs between two tracts that look identical on a map.
